Inland villages & places to visit
St Paul de Vence (25 min) is probably one of the most beautiful villages in France. It is the perfect location for those who seek a combination of a romantic ambience, art and culture and fine food and wine. The Medieval village is fortified and from the ramparts you may experience the most stunning views on the Mediterranean sea and the surrounding countryside. The historical centre is beautifully preserved and is home for a multitude of art galleries varying in style.
Gourdon (15 min) is located 760 meters above sea level on an isolated rock and was historically very important as a hiding place because of its geographical position. The view from the edge of the village is spectacular; you can see most of the coast, all the way to the Esterel and the Gorges du Loup below is beautiful.
Biot (15 min) is currently known for its glass works and you can watch the glass-blowing process as the pieces are made. There are plenty of little boutiques and the inviting terraces are perfect for a delicious glass of refreshing pastis. The amusement parks 'Antibes Land ' and ' Marineland ' are located just outside the village of Biot.
The Medieval village of Valbonne (10 min) with its typical Provencal Friday market is very charming and definitely worth to visit. The central square 'La Place des Arcades' is the place to be for a drink and a taste of French cuisine after having rambled around in the village.
Grasse (10 min) is known as the perfume capital of the world. The perfume houses Fragonard and Galimard are definitely recommended for those who are interested and it is possible to compose your own perfume. Wander through the winding streets of the old town and let you get carried away in time!
Mougins (15 min) is a beautiful village, with tiny, winding roads that seem to roll up like a “snail’s shell”. The village is today a collection of art galleries and restaurants. Enjoy the taste of excellent French cuisine on a warm summer evening and let the eternal charm of the French Riviera soak in.
Tourrettes-sur-Loup (20 min) is a lovely village situated on a narrow piece of land extending from the rocky hills behind and is also known as the ' Cité des Violettes '. The culture of the violet flower is still an important activity and there is a big festival at the end of February to celebrate the end of the season.
The perched village of Eze (45 min) with its spectacular hilltop setting is a combination of breathtaking views and elegant old architecture and brings out the charming atmosphere which is so recognizable to the French Riviera.
For those who love nature, it is definitely worth to make at trip to the Gorges du Verdon (1h50). This impressive canyon is considered to be the largest in Europe with rock walls up to 700 meters. The Verdon River has the most beautiful azure blue color and winds between the rock walls to end up in the 'Lac Sainte Croix ' where you can rent canoes and kayaks. In the natural park of the Verdon, there are numerous hiking trails for every level. The village of Moustiers-Sainte-Marie nearby is highly recommended.
The caves of Saint Cézaire (25 min) were discovered by accident in the early 20th century and show a fabulous underground world. During a structured tour the visitor discovers a magical landscape accented by a perfect light.
